the situationship directive | red room no. 61
commitment was never about what he says. it's about where he spends himself.
situationships don’t fail.
they succeed.
they do exactly what they were built to do —
give someone the benefits of intimacy
without the responsibilities of it.
that’s not confusion.
that’s a structure.
and structures don’t collapse on their own.
someone has to stop maintaining them.
—
here’s what nobody wants to say out loud:
most men know sooner than they admit
whether they’re willing to seriously explore a future with someone.
not everything.
not every detail.
but whether they want to find out.
that knowing doesn’t announce itself.
it doesn’t come with a conversation,
a declaration, a clean moment of clarity.
it shows up in something much smaller.
much harder to fake.
and much easier to miss —
if you’re looking for the wrong signal.
